In this video, I discuss notions of craft, risk and skill in history and how they relate to Andi McClure’s Icosa. This is a topic that means a lot to me; over the years I keep coming back to ideas about craft, what it’s like to make things and how a curiosity about the creative process can or should affect the way that we critically interpret the result. In fact, it’s a topic that figures fairly prominently in my latest book.
In case you’re curious, the slideshow below shows the images that were made while I was recording this video.

Icosa is a game-like digital art tool by Andi McClure that is free for anybody to use.
Most of this video is inspired by the work of Glenn Adamson. This lecture of his is a good place to go for more ideas about craft and history.
